Glad this is getting picked up on the wire. It's a shame these young ladies had to suffer and the WT did nothing. There is a reason mandatory reporting laws are in place.
100% this is getting appealed but the PR damage done to their brand is much worse that the money.
when i was a full-on believing jw i had an obsessive fascination with mormonism.
i read, studied and watched their propaganda with strange interest as well as their apostate mormon books.
i have to say, they have a good scam going claiming that "the lord reintroduced tithing" in the modern age.
They kinda already have tithing in the form of a monthly set contribution from the congregations that was support the "building" work. I would imagine they'd love to do it and I think having a set amount per publisher instead of a percentage of income would likely be the easiest to administer. That would certainly flush out any PIMOs who would resent having to give them a dime.
my husband was baptized at the recent 2018 convention in south africa ....... he was very annoyed that his non-believing wife did not attend the baptism....... but i think he received pressure from his jw father & elders as to why his wife was not attending ....... anyway ..... it's really water off my back .
i wanted to know what privileges you get as a baptized jw man , as i saw a message from one of the elders at his cong , congratulating him on his baptism and to earning more privileges ..... what are these privileges the elder is speaking about ,,,,, .

He'll probably be allowed to carry mics or work the sound at the meetings or maybe say a prayer. That's probably it for now. Really not much of a "privilege" when you think about it. In the JW world, even simple basic things are used as a carrot (or a stick to punish) desired behavior. The more you do what they want, the more things they assign you to make you feel important. Basic cult 101 behavior.

Doubter - just how dumb are you? How is saying that most normal (read not brain dead JWs) have no problem with sex outside of marriage and use profanity on occasion putting my foot in my mouth? Most non-JWs do NOT know the difference between baptized and not. Nor do they care. Serena self identifies as a JW and for most people, they are going to take her at her word. The WTS certainly hasn't said anything to counteract that claim in public.

She certainly projects to outsiders that she is a JW. Of course, we know she was never baptized but when you give interviews talking about how "we" don't celebrate birthdays, the average person is going to assume that she is a JW. What a fine witness she gives! Sex outside marriage, fits of anger, using profanity, etc. But maybe the reason the WT doesn't counter her claim is that they want people to think that JWs are normal except for a few idiosyncrasies such as not celebrating birthdays.

now i won’t call her awake yet but through a series of long conversations this week i revealed to her my dissenting toward the jw faith.
she was totally supportive of me assured me she would never think differently of me because of how i feel.

I'm very lucky mine had been better most years as my career has progressed. Only year it was worse was in 2008 when the markets crashed. But they recovered as did my house and retirement account.
